Let’s get this over with – tariffs are a huge deal, and Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is, like, totally not concerned enough about President Donald Trump‘s steep international tariffs – I mean, who needs to worry about the economy, right? But, But, in all seriousness, Kennedy did scold staunch supporters of the policy with a dire warning to multiple outlets, because, you know, someone’s gotta say it.
And, can we just take a moment to talk about the tariffs themselves? I mean, Trump dubbed April 2 “Liberation Day” and announced a sweeping 10% baseline tariff on all imports to the U.S. – because, you know, that’s exactly what we needed, more tariffs.
But, hey, at least Kennedy is trying to be realistic about the situation, saying “In the long run, we’re all dead” – and, let’s be real, that’s just a fancy way of saying "we have no idea what’s going to happen." And, fun fact, you can find all sorts of books on tariffs and trade wars on Amazon, because, you know, knowledge is power.
And, let’s not forget, only four Republican senators – Rand Paul (Ky.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Susan Collins (Maine) – joined Democrats in voting against the emergency powers Trump is using to impose a 25% tariff against Canada – because, you know, someone’s gotta stand up for what’s right.
But, Kennedy did not vote against the emergency powers, because, you know, he’s all about that flip-flop life. And, let’s be real, who needs consistency in politics, anyway?
And, can we talk about the economists who are trying to predict the impact of these tariffs? I mean, Kennedy said that even “late-night psychic hotlines” are more accurate in their predictions – and, honestly, that’s just savage. But, hey, at least they’re trying, right?
But, in all seriousness, Kennedy did say that “What the president is saying is, if you want to sell stuff to Americans, move your business to America and hire Americans and contribute to our economy, don’t just sell stuff” – and, let’s be real, that’s just a fancy way of saying "America first" (again). And, hey, if you’re interested in learning more about the "America first" movement, you can find all sorts of interesting books and articles on the topic.
And, finally, let’s talk about the support that HuffPost is asking for – because, you know, journalism is hard, and someone’s gotta pay for it. But, hey, at least they’re being upfront about it, right?
But, wait, what was I saying? Oh right, the tariffs. So, yeah, Kennedy is all about that tariff life – and, honestly, it’s just a big mess. But, hey, at least we can all agree that politics and tariffs are a wild ride.
