Ukraine’s new lithium mine has the potential to extract 4,300 tonnes of lithium daily, with a concentration of the mineral at a depth of 200-500 meters. The mine is located in the Kirovohrad region, about 350km south of the capital, Kyiv.
The US has made a claim to half of Ukraine’s mineral wealth, including lithium, oil, and gas, in exchange for previous military assistance, but Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has refused to sign the agreement, seeking security guarantees and other investment options.
