And then, out of nowhere, the administration decides to revoke visas from students who dare to speak out against Israel’s actions in Gaza – because, you know, free speech is so overrated. But, hey, who needs due process, right? I mean, it’s not like these students are being accused of actual crimes or anything (check out the latest on this debacle). Nope, they’re just being punished for having an opinion – an opinion that, might I add, is rightly outraged.
But let’s get real here, shall we? The administration is basically just making it up as they go along, daring the courts to try and stop them. It’s like they’re playing some kind of twisted game of Simon Says, except instead of “Simon says touch your nose,” it’s “Simon says revoke all the visas.” And, by the way, have you seen the prices of coffee makers on Amazon lately? Totally unrelated, but just saying.
And then there’s Marco Rubio, who’s somehow managed to go from being seen as a moderate voice of reason to, well, not that. I mean, the guy was nominated for his role and people were all like, “Hey, maybe he’ll be okay.” But now? of moderation is crumbling, and it’s becoming painfully clear that he’s just another enabler of the administration’s antics. It’s like he’s trying to win some kind of bet on who can be the most spineless. By the way, does anyone know what the weather is like in Florida today?
But, I digress. The situation is, in a word, appalling. And it’s only going to get worse, because that’s what happens when you have an administration that’s more concerned with chilling effects than actual justice. I mean, think about it: these students are being detained without cause, and the courts are just supposed to… what, exactly? Magic everything better? It’s absurd. (On a completely unrelated note, has anyone tried that new detox tea on Amazon? Reviews say it’s, like, life-changing or something.)
And let’s not forget, this is all happening while the administration is basically just gaslighting the entire country. It’s like they’re trying to convince us that up is down, and wrong is right. Newsflash: it’s not working. Well, at least, I hope it’s not working. Are people actually buying this nonsense? (Side note: I just saw the most amusing mug on Amazon – it says “I’m not arguing, I’m just explaining why I’m right.”)
But, in all seriousness, this is some scary stuff. The administration’s actions are having a chilling effect on free speech, and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t do something about it. So, what are we going to do about it? Anything? (Apparently, some people on Twitter are trying to raise awareness – kudos to them, I guess.)
And, finally, can someone please explain to me why the administration is so obsessed with speech they don’t like? Is it really that threatening to them? Do they honestly believe that if people are allowed to speak freely, the entire country will just… implode or something? It’s baffling. (On a completely unrelated note, I just saw that you can buy weighted blankets on Amazon – apparently they’re great for anxiety. Just saying.)
