Trump Signs Executive Order Calling for Immediate Shutdown of Education Department, Suddenly Remembers He Can’t Read

4 Min Read

Breaking News: President Donald Trump is finally doing something about the so-called “Department of Education” – and by “doing something,” I mean he’s trying to shut it down (because, you know, education is overrated). According to a White House official, Trump plans to sign an executive order to dismantle the department, because who needs education, anyway? I mean, it’s not like it’s a fundamental right or anything.

But let’s get real, Trump has been trying to gut the department for years, and it’s not like he’s going to actually succeed in shutting it down without Congress getting involved (spoiler alert: they won’t let him). And what’s with the whole “return education authority to the states” thing? Doesn’t that just sound like a nice way of saying “let’s make education even more unequal and unfair”?

And, by the way, have you seen the education reform books on Amazon? They’re like a never-ending nightmare of bureaucratic red tape and pointless jargon. But, I digress. The point is, Trump’s plan is to direct Secretary Linda McMahon to “take all necessary steps” to close the department, because that’s exactly what we need – more unnecessary steps.

But, let’s look at the facts, shall we? The Department of Education has been gutted under Trump’s administration, with its workforce being slashed in half and deep cuts to the Office for Civil Rights and the Institute of Education Sciences. And what’s the result? A fundamentally unequal education system that leaves children behind.

And don’t even get me started on the Trump administration‘s track record on education. They’ve been using the Department of Education to promote their own agenda, from civil rights enforcement to confirmation hearings. It’s like they’re trying to create a Ministry of Truth for education or something.

And, by the way, 1984 is a great book, you should totally read it. But, I guess that’s not the point. The point is, Trump’s plan is a disaster waiting to happen, and we should all be very worried.

But, in all seriousness, the Department of Education plays a crucial role in overseeing civil rights enforcement and managing federal student loans. And, let’s not forget, federal funding makes up a significant portion of public school budgets, especially for special education programs. So, yeah, shutting down the department would be a great idea (said no one ever).

And, finally, can we talk about how Congress needs to step up and do their job? I mean, it’s not like they have better things to do, like, say, impeachment proceedings or something. But, seriously, Congress needs to take a stand and protect the Department of Education, because, you know, education is important.

In conclusion, Trump’s plan to shut down the Department of Education is a disaster waiting to happen, and we should all be very worried. But, hey, at least we can all agree that education matters, right?
