And here we go again, folks, with the Trump administration making yet another ridiculous claim, because, of course, they can do whatever they want, right?
According to a transcript from the Daily Beast, a lawyer for the administration argued that President Trump has the authority to fire all women and people over 40 from federal positions if he so chooses, because, you know, that’s not discrimination or anything.
But let’s get real, Judge Karen Henderson of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals asked the million-dollar question: could the president decide not to appoint or allow to remain in office any female heads of agencies or any heads over 40 years old?
And the response from Deputy Assistant Attorney General Eric McArthur was, essentially, “yeah, sure, why not?”
I mean, what could possibly go wrong with that, right?
It’s not like we have a Constitution that prohibits discrimination based on sex or age, or anything.
And then, Judge Justin Walker brought up the 14th Amendment, because, you know, that’s the one that says all people are created equal and should be treated as such, but McArthur was all, “nah, I think it’s cool, I think the president can just do whatever he wants.”
And Judge Patricia Millett was all, “um, what about the over 40 part?”
And McArthur was all, “oh, that’s a rational basis, duh.”
But, let’s not forget, the Trump administration has been firing federal workers left and right, without any regard for the law, because, you know, they’re above the law or something.
Like, for example, Cathy Harris, who can only be removed from her position for cause, but Trump was all, “peace out, girl, you’re fired,” without giving any reason.
And, of course, the district judges have already ruled that Trump illegally fired both Wilcox and Harris, but the administration is all, “nope, we’re gonna appeal, because we can.”
It’s like, hello, didn’t you learn about the separation of powers in school?
And, by the way, has anyone noticed that the Trump administration is just, like, totally ignoring the law and doing whatever they want, whenever they want?
It’s like, come on, guys, you can’t just make up your own rules as you go along, that’s not how this works.
But, hey, what do I know, I’m just a random person on the internet, what could I possibly know about the law or the Constitution?
Maybe I should just stick to shopping on Amazon and leave the law to the experts, right?
