Trump Genius Plan Foiled: ‘Who Needs Reading Skills When Signing Historic Documents?’

4 Min Read

Let’s Talk Tariffs, Shall We?
And, apparently, President Donald Trump is still trying to figure out how his own trade deals work – who knew? But, in all seriousness, it seems like he’s having a bit of a crisis, realizing that Americans are footing the bill for some pretty unfair financial burdens. I mean, what’s the point of having a trade deal if you’re just going to end up paying more in the long run? It’s like buying a designer handbag that you think is a good deal, only to realize it’s just a fancy knockoff.

The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) – A Deal or a Steal?
The president is now claiming that the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement he signed is actually a pretty bad deal – what a shock! But, let’s be real, this is the same guy who praised the USMCA in 2020 as the "best agreement we’ve ever made." I guess that’s what happens when you’re trying to appease everyone and end up pleasing no one. Anyway, Trump’s solution to this problem is to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian and Mexican goods – because, you know, that’s not going to harm everyday Americans or anything.

Tariffs – The Answer to All Our Problems?
But, hey, who needs experts when you have Trump’s intuition, right? I mean, it’s not like economists have been warning that these tariffs will have devastating effects on American consumers. Nope, let’s just take Trump’s word for it – after all, he’s a master deal-maker, or so he claims. And, by the way, have you seen the books on trade deals that are available? Maybe Trump should pick one up and learn a thing or two.

The Plot Thickens
And, in a bizarre twist, Trump even criticized himself – unintentionally, of course – when he rebuked America’s neighbors for taking advantage of the country. I mean, who can blame them, right? It’s not like we’ve been making questionable trade deals for years. But, hey, at least Trump is consistent – consistently inconsistent, that is. By the way, if you’re interested in learning more about international trade, there are some great resources available.

A Glimmer of Hope?
However, not everyone is as optimistic as Trump – surprise, surprise. Jared Bernstein, the economic adviser to former President Joe Biden, said that the USMCA is "an improvement at the margins but far from perfect" – what a refreshing dose of reality! But, let’s be real, it’s not like Trump is going to listen to reason or anything. He’s too busy tweeting about how great his tariffs are going to be – just like his predecessors, no doubt.

The Tariff Train Has Left the Station
And, before you know it, Trump’s tariffs will be here, and we’ll all be wondering what hit us. But, hey, at least we’ll have our tariff-related products to keep us company – silver linings, right? Anyway, it’s time to buckle up, folks, because this tariff rollercoaster is about to get real – and, hopefully, we’ll all come out alive on the other side. In the meantime, you can learn more about the USMCA and its potential effects on the economy.
