European leaders are seeking a role in international talks to end the war in Ukraine, despite indications from the US and Russia that they are not yet involved in the negotiations. The leaders of Germany, the UK, Italy, and other EU nations met in Paris to discuss possible peacekeeping troops and a lasting peace agreement.
The US and Russia have suggested that European nations should not be part of the negotiations, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying he doesn’t know what Europe has to do at the negotiations table. However, European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are pushing for a strong and lasting peace in Ukraine, with security guarantees for the Ukrainians.
