I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Tim Walz is going on a tour of House districts represented by Republicans who have stopped holding in-person town halls, because, you know, who needs to listen to their constituents, right?
And let’s be real, it’s not like these Republicans are trying to avoid getting grilled by their constituents or anything (although, I mean, who can blame them?). But seriously, Walz’s team is planning stops in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio, with more stops expected to be added, because apparently, he’s on a mission to become the town hall whisperer or something.
But what’s really interesting (or should I say, predictable?) is that no major Democratic leaders have been stepping forward with similar kinds of public events, except for independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has been taking swings of his own through the Midwest (because, of course, he has). And I’m like, what’s going on here, folks? Are the Democrats just too busy strategizing to actually, you know, show up to town halls?
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “What about the post on X where Walz responded to House Republican leaders who advised their colleagues to stop holding town halls?” Well, let me tell you, that post was like a call to arms (or in this case, a call to town halls), and Walz’s staff has been sifting through hundreds of invitations from local party leaders and candidates asking him to come.
And did you know that Walz has been stepping out more in recent weeks, after going deliberately quiet in the months after the campaign? Because, you know, he’s been writing a book or something (just kidding, but that would be funny, right?).
But in all seriousness, Walz said he felt obligated to step up, given his national profile after his time on the Democratic ticket last year (you know, the one where they lost to Donald Trump and JD Vance?). And I’m like, yeah, no kidding, someone’s got to take the reins here.
And then there’s the whole situation with the Trump administration’s moves to dismantle the Department of Education, which, let’s be real, is just awesome (said no one ever). But seriously, Walz is planning to tell people that it doesn’t have to be this way, and that they can mobilize to fight back.
Now, I’m not saying that Walz is the superhero we need, but someone’s got to do it, right? And who knows, maybe this tour will be the start of something big (or at least, something interesting).
But what’s really got me scratching my head is that many expect Walz to run for a third term as governor next year, and he’s downplaying the suggestion that this effort is laying the groundwork for a future national run. And I’m like, come on, dude, you’re not fooling anyone (or are you?).
Anyway, that’s my two cents on the whole situation. What do you think, folks? Are you ready for the Tim Walz tour to come to a town near you?
And by the way, has anyone tried these snacks that are perfect for town halls? Because, you know, priorities.
But in all seriousness, this is a crazy time we’re living in, folks, and I’m just trying to make sense of it all. So, stay engaged, stay informed, and for the love of all things good, show up to town halls.
