The Democratic Opposition Should Look More Like Rep. Al Green, Said No One Who Has Seen His Dance Moves

I am absolutely, completely, and utterly fed up with the State of the Union address – can you believe Donald Trump’s speech was that bad?! It was like a never-ending nightmare, a veritable barrage of lies and mendacity that left me questioning the very fabric of reality. And don’t even get me started on the so-called “presidential” behavior, which was about as genuine as a phony weight loss supplement infomercial.

But amidst all this chaos and destruction, one brave soul stood tall, waving his cane like a triumphant banner and shouting, “You have no mandate to cut Medicaid!” – and that hero, my friends, is the one and only Al Green. I mean, can we talk about this guy for a second? He’s like the Man of Steel, fighting for truth, justice, and the American way – or at least, for a decent healthcare system that doesn’t leave people to suffer and die. And let’s not forget, nearly one in four Americans depend on Medicaid, including many Trump voters, so you’d think the administration would, I don’t know, care about their well-being or something. But no, they’re too busy trying to cut the program and cause chaos in our healthcare system, which, as this article points out, would be a huge mistake.

And then, of course, there’s the Republican majority House, which voted to censure Green for his protest – because, you know, standing up for what’s right is apparently a crime nowadays. I mean, what’s next? Are they going to start burning books or something? But I guess that’s just the kind of cowardly move we can expect from politicians who are more interested in toeing the party line than actually representing their constituents. As Michael Kinnucan argued, cutting Medicaid would be not only morally reprehensible but also politically stupid, since 71 percent of people think the program should continue and two-thirds support expanding it. But hey, who needs popular opinion when you’ve got an ideology to push, right?

But what really gets my blood boiling is the reaction from some Democratic politicians – you know, the ones who are supposed to be on our side. I mean, Senator Chris Coons of Delaware said Green’s protest was “counterproductive” and “went beyond decorum” – decorum, can you believe it? It’s like they’re more concerned with being polite and follow the rules than with actually fighting for what’s right. And don’t even get me started on David Axelrod, who called Green’s action “despicable” – I mean, what’s despicable is the fact that we’re even having this conversation in the first place. It’s like, hello, people are suffering and dying because of our broken healthcare system, and you’re worried about a little thing like decorum? Get your priorities straight, folks.

And let’s not forget the ten Democrats who voted with the Republicans to censure Green – I mean, what’s going on here? Are they trying to commit political suicide or something? Newsflash: your constituents are not going to forget this, and they’re going to be demanding to know what you’re doing to protect their healthcare – so, you know, maybe you should get on that. As Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pointed out in her Instagram live stream, Trump didn’t even mention Medicaid once in his speech, because they know it’s unpopular – but that’s not going to stop them from trying to cut it anyway.

But in the end, it’s not all doom and gloom – I mean, we’ve got heroes like Al Green and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who are willing to stand up and fight for what’s right, even if it means going against the establishment. And as Green said, “At some point, we’re all going to have to stand up” – so, you know, let’s get to it, shall we? It’s time to stop playing nice and start fighting for what’s right, even if it means getting a little messy and disrupting the status quo. After all, as the great philosopher, Mahatma Gandhi, once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world” – so, let’s get to it, shall we?

And, by the way, have you seen the latest cat videos on YouTube? I mean, they’re hilarious – but, I guess, not exactly relevant to the topic at hand. Oh well, moving on… As Green told ABC News, “in the richest country in the world, people should not be without good health care” – and I couldn’t agree more. It’s time to wake up, America, and start fighting for healthcare – and not just for ourselves, but for our neighbors, our friends, and our fellow human beings.

But, I mean, what’s the point, right? We’re just going to keep on spinning our wheels and getting nowhere – or are we? Maybe, just maybe, we can make a difference, one small step at a time. So, let’s start by getting involved in politics and demanding that our elected officials do better – because, you know, we deserve better. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll have a utopian society where everyone has access to quality healthcare and we can all live happily ever after – but until then, let’s keep on fighting the good fight.

And, as a final note, I just want to say that I’m exhausted – I mean, this article has been a
