Sir Keir Starmer is set to reduce UK overseas aid to its lowest level as a percentage of national income since records began. The aid budget will be cut from 0.5% to 0.3% of gross national income in 2027.
According to Ian Mitchell, co-director of the Centre for Global Development, even if the cost of housing asylum seekers is halved, the UK would still spend only 0.23% of its national income on overseas aid in 2027, the lowest share since 1960.
