Spain’s economy has experienced significant growth, with a 3% increase last year, attributed to the influx of foreign workers. The country’s ministry for social security and migration reports that 45% of new jobs have been filled by approximately half a million new foreign-born workers.
Foreign labor has been instrumental in sustaining Spain’s social security system, with 85% of new jobs being taken by foreign-born workers. The government has announced plans to provide work permits and papers to some 900,000 foreigners already in the country illegally, aiming to bring them into the system and have them work and pay taxes.
