Solo Trek Sparked Fury: Brit Explorer’s Nunavut Island Claim Disputed

1 Min Read

Nunavut residents are disputing a British visitor’s claim of being the first woman to traverse solo across Baffin Island. Camilla Hempleman-Adams completed a trek from Qikiqtarjuaq to Pangnirtung, but residents argue this is only a fraction of the island’s length.

Local resident Gayle Uyagaqi Kabloona has complained, stating that Inuit have lived in the area for thousands of years and have completed similar treks, making Hempleman-Adams’ claim inaccurate. Kabloona is seeking an apology for neglecting the region’s colonial history.
