Social Security Checks Could Stop Going Out by April, But Let’s Be Real, You’ve Already Spent It All on Avocado Toast Anyway

5 Min Read
I mean, seriously, can you believe this? The former Social Security commissioner is saying the system could “collapse” and cause disruptions in payments within “30 to 90 days” – because, you know, that’s exactly what we need, more uncertainty in our lives. And, of course, this is all happening under the watchful eye of President Biden, because leadership. I’m no expert, but isn’t the whole point of Social Security to, you know, provide security? Like, a safety net for when we’re old and grey? But no, apparently, it’s just a big game of Jenga, and we’re all just waiting for the whole thing to come crashing down. You can even buy the game on Amazon, if you want to relive the thrill of watching your retirement savings disappear.
But, I digress. So, the former commissioner is saying that the system could collapse, and I’m just over here thinking, “Well, isn’t that just peachy?” I mean, who needs stable retirement funds, anyway? It’s not like we’re living in a time of economic uncertainty or anything. And, hey, if the system does collapse, we can always just, uh, rely on our inheritance to get us through, right? I mean, who needs a government-funded safety net when you’ve got Mom and Dad’s savings to fall back on? (Just kidding, folks, I know that’s not how it works.)
And, let’s be real, this is all just a big political game, anyway. I mean, the former commissioner is just trying to stir up controversy and get his name in the papers. It’s not like he actually cares about the well-being of American citizens or anything. But, hey, at least he’s giving us something to talk about, right? Like, “Oh, the Social Security system might collapse, but at least we’ve got Netflix to distract us from the impending doom.” (You can even buy a Netflix subscription on Amazon, if you want to escape the reality of our crumbling social safety net.)
But, I guess what I’m trying to say is, this whole thing is just a big mess. I mean, we’ve got politicians who can’t seem to get their acts together, and a system that’s on the verge of collapse. And, meanwhile, we’re all just sitting here, waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s like, what’s next? Are we going to have to start bartering for goods and services or something? (You can even buy a book about bartering on Amazon, if you want to prepare for the apocalypse.)
And, don’t even get me started on the timing of all this. I mean, it’s not like we’re in the middle of a global pandemic or anything. It’s not like people are already struggling to make ends meet. But, hey, at least we’ve got the former commissioner’s warning to look forward to, right? Like, “Oh, great, the Social Security system might collapse, but at least we’ve got COVID-19 to keep us company.” (You can even buy a face mask on Amazon, if you want to protect yourself from the impending doom.)
But, in all seriousness, this is a big deal. I mean, we’re talking about people’s lives here. We’re talking about the Social Security Administration and its ability to provide for our citizens. It’s not like this is just a game or something. It’s real life. And, we need to take it seriously. We need to demand that our politicians take action and fix this mess. We need to hold them accountable for their actions. And, we need to prepare for the worst. Because, let’s face it, folks, this is not a drill. You can even buy an emergency kit on Amazon, if you want to be prepared.
