I’m just so done with President Trump and his whole “mandate” thing – can’t he just get over himself already? (I mean, I know, I know, it’s not like he’s going to suddenly develop a sense of humility or anything). Anyway, according to NPR, he’s used the word “mandate” more than 50 times in public appearances and on social media since Election Day – yeah, because nothing says “mandate” like repeatedly telling people you have one.
But let’s get real, two months into his term and the strength of that supposed mandate is basically crumbling like a badly made cookie – and honestly, it’s about time. On just about every issue, from immigration to the economy, there are more Americans who disapprove of Trump’s actions in office than approve of them – wow, what a shocking twist (said no one ever).
And don’t even get me started on trade – I mean, seriously, who thought imposing tariffs on most global imports was a good idea? The poll shows that 60% of Americans disapprove of the administration’s handling of trade negotiations with other countries, compared to just 38% who approve – yeah, because that’s not a recipe for disaster or anything. By the way, have you seen the prices of cars lately? You can check them out on Amazon – just saying.
But what’s even more hilarious is that Trump’s strongest issue – his approach to immigration – is a much tighter split, with 49% of Americans approving of his performance, compared to 50% who disapprove – oh, so close, yet so far. And overall, the poll shows just 4 in 10 Americans approve of Trump’s job performance as president – yeah, because that’s not a failing grade or anything.
These numbers, of course, tell a far different story than the one the Trump administration is telling – and it’s not hard to see why. While Trump did win decisively in November, his actions in office have frequently run counter to his campaign promises, particularly when it comes to the economy – what a shock. The same person who promised to bring down prices “on Day One” is now eyeing tariffs that could raise the costs of cars, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, and more – because who needs affordable healthcare, right?
This weekend on Meet the Press, Trump said he “couldn’t care less” if foreign car manufacturers raise their prices “because people are going to start buying American-made cars” – yeah, because that’s exactly how economics works (not). His Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently put it more bluntly: “Access to cheap goods is not the essence of the American dream” – wow, what a profound statement (said no one ever).
Guess “Make America Affordable Again” was just easier to fit on a bumper sticker – yeah, because that’s exactly what the American people need, more empty slogans. By the way, you can find some pretty affordable bump stickers on Amazon – just saying.
But seriously, can we just talk about how ridiculous this whole situation is? I mean, who thought it was a good idea to impose tariffs on most global imports? Did they not learn about the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act in history class? Apparently not.
And another thing, what’s with the whole “Make America Great Again” thing? Like, what does that even mean? Is it just a blanket statement to cover up all the failed policies and broken promises? Because if so, it’s working beautifully – said no one ever.
But in all seriousness, it’s time to face the music – Trump’s “mandate” is basically nonexistent, and his actions in office have been a disaster. So, what’s next? Well, for starters, we could try to impeach him – just kidding (or am I?).
Anyway, that’s my two cents on the whole situation – take it for what it’s worth (which, let’s be real, is probably not much). But hey, at least we can all agree on one thing – this whole ordeal has been a wild ride, and we’re all just along for the ride. Buckle up, folks!
Oh, and one more thing – if you’re looking for some coffee to help you stay awake during these trying times, I highly recommend checking out Amazon – just saying.
But in conclusion (finally), it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee – Trump’s “mandate” is a joke, and it’s time to hold him accountable for his actions. So, let’s get to it – accountability is just a click away.
