Mzia Amaghlobeli, founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, has ended her 38-day hunger strike. Her decision comes after the tragic death of two minors in Batumi, with Amaghlobeli citing the need to resume eating with medical help.
Amaghlobeli was detained on January 11 for hanging a poster at a pro-European rally and later charged with slapping a police officer. Her hunger strike was a protest against her detention, with other activists also striking in solidarity. A clinic will now treat Amaghlobeli for refeeding syndrome, a condition that can occur after a long period of hunger strike.
