The Japanese government will release up to 210,000 tons of stockpiled rice to stabilize the market amid soaring prices due to higher demand and poor harvests. This move aims to ensure smooth distribution of the staple food.
The reserved rice, mainly from last year’s harvest, will be handed over to wholesalers in mid-March and is expected to hit store shelves between late March and early April, with the goal of bringing the market back to normal.
