Inflation Tamer: Milei’s Policies Drive Down Poverty Rates Amid Cooling Prices

Argentina’s poverty rate has decreased significantly, with 38.1 percent of the population living below the poverty line in the second half of last year, down from 52.9 percent earlier in 2024.

The drop in poverty is attributed to the disinflationary effects of President Javier Milei’s austerity program, which has led to a decrease in annual inflation from 289 percent to 66.9 percent, and a steady increase in monthly wages outpacing inflation.
