India’s Ambitious River-Interlinking Plan Sparks Widespread Opposition Amid Water Scarcity Concerns

India’s Ken-Betwa river-linking project aims to address the country’s severe water scarcity issues by constructing a 221-kilometre canal to connect the two rivers.

The project will provide irrigation for arid areas, ensure a steady drinking-water supply for over six million people, and generate hydro power and solar energy, but it will also displace over 6,300 people across 10 villages.
