The ruling Georgian Dream party has announced plans to restore treason articles in the criminal code, a move critics view as repressive. The party’s parliamentary leader, Mamuka Mdinaradze, stated that the article was previously removed by the United National Movement party.
The announcement comes amidst amendments to the criminal code and administrative offences codes, which toughen punishments and fines against protesters. The party has also established a commission to investigate the former ruling party, sparking concerns of propaganda and stigmatization of opponents.
