Finland has announced its departure from the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, a treaty that bans the use of anti-personnel mines. The country’s president, Alexander Stubb, stated that Finland will prepare for withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention, citing a thorough assessment by relevant ministries and the Defense Forces.
The move follows similar decisions by other European nations, including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, which announced their withdrawal from the treaty in March, citing increased military threats from Russia and the need to strengthen defense capabilities.
