I mean, seriously, who needs actual help with fertility treatments when you’ve got a president who’s dubbed himself the "fertilization president"? And let’s be real, it’s not like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Assisted Reproductive Technology Surveillance team was doing any actual good, right? I mean, they were just a bunch of epidemiologists, data analysts, and researchers wasting their time tracking outcomes related to IVF. Who needs that when you’ve got a president who’s making empty promises?
But, of course, the irony isn’t lost on Catherine Rampell, who’s calling out Republicans for their hypocrisy. And I’m like, thank you, Catherine, for stating the obvious – every single Republican who claimed Trump would help families access IVF coverage owes America an apology. I mean, come on, have you seen the tweets from these people? It’s like they actually thought Trump was going to follow through on his promises. Ha!
And let’s talk about this "fertilization president" thing – is that even a real thing? Like, can you actually be a president of fertilization? Is there a fertilization kingdom that I’m not aware of? Because, honestly, it sounds like something out of a bad sci-fi movie. But hey, I guess when you’re trying to distract from the fact that you’re cutting funding for actual fertility research, you’ve got to come up with something. Maybe I’ll just check out some books on fertility research to understand what’s actually going on.
And, by the way, has anyone else noticed that the CDC’s IVF team was responsible for some pretty important stuff, like monitoring and tracking outcomes related to IVF, and providing tools to the public, like an "IVF success estimator"? Like, who needs that when you’ve got a president who’s promising the world and delivering nothing? But, I guess that’s just the kind of thing you cut when you’re trying to, you know, "drain the swamp" or whatever. Maybe we can find some IVF success estimators on Amazon to make up for it.
But, hey, at least Trump’s consistent, right? I mean, he’s been consistently terrible at actually following through on his promises, and consistently good at making empty gestures. So, in that sense, I guess we should all just be grateful that he’s being true to form. And, as one user pointed out, what happened to Trump’s executive order expanding IVF? Another lie, perhaps? Or maybe it’s just a case of executive order overload.
And, can we talk about how absurd it is that the CDC’s IVF team was cut just days after Trump boasted about his administration’s efforts to expand IVF access? Like, what’s the point of even having a "fertilization president" if you’re just going to cut funding for the people who are actually doing the work? It’s like, hello, you’re not fooling anyone with your empty promises. You can’t just talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk. Or, you know, actually fund the people who are doing the walking. Maybe we can find some fertility treatments on Amazon to make up for the lack of funding.
Anyway, I guess that’s just the state of our politics these days – all talk, no action. But hey, at least we’ve got Catherine Rampell calling out the hypocrisy, and NBC News reporting on the actual facts. So, that’s something, right? Maybe we can find some books on politics to understand what’s going on.
But, in all seriousness, this is just another example of how our government is failing us. I mean, we’ve got a president who’s more interested in tweeting about his latest accomplishments than actually doing the work. And we’ve got a system that’s more interested in lining the pockets of politicians than actually helping people. So, yeah, let’s all just take a moment to appreciate the absurdity of it all. And maybe, just maybe, we can find some books on absurdity to make sense of it all.
