Warning: what you’re about to read is a totally biased and satirical take on the whole Trump-TdA debacle – so, buckle up! But, let’s get real, if Trump wants to declare war on the TdA, he needs to follow the rules, specifically the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the public exploitation of prisoners of war.
And, can we talk about how the Trump administration and CECOT may have already violated other aspects of the Geneva Conventions? I mean, The Bulwark is saying they didn’t provide the necessary info about prisoners, like names, serial numbers, and addresses, so next of kin can be notified – what’s up with that? (By the way, has anyone seen my lost cat, Mr. Whiskers?)
But, I digress – the Trump administration also allegedly didn’t allow prisoners to write to their families within a week of capture, and they didn’t let them send and receive letters and cards as per the Conventions – talk about a total disregard for human rights! And, what’s with sending prisoners to CECOT, which is notorious for human rights abuses? (You can buy books about human rights on Amazon, by the way.)
And, let’s not forget Judge James Boasberg’s filing, which states that the Trump administration likely violated the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act of 1998 – you know, the one that says the US shouldn’t expel people to countries where they might be tortured? It’s like, come on, guys, follow the law! (Or, at the very least, try to follow the law.)
But, what’s the point, right? It’s not like anyone in the Trump administration actually cares about human rights or the law – they’re too busy tweeting and golfing to worry about little things like war crimes. Anyway, if you want to learn more about the Geneva Conventions, you can check out this article – just don’t expect me to summarize it for you, I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
And, can someone please explain to me why we’re still talking about this? Like, can’t we just move on to something else? (Oh wait, I forgot, this is politics we’re talking about – nothing ever gets resolved.) But, I guess that’s just the way the cookie crumbles – or, in this case, the way the law gets bent and broken. (You can buy cookies on Amazon, by the way.)
But, let’s get back to the issue at hand – the Trump administration’s alleged violation of human rights. I mean, it’s not like this is the first time they’ve been accused of something like this – but, still, you’d think they’d learn from their mistakes. (Or, at the very least, try to cover them up better.) Anyway, if you want to read more about the Trump administration’s antics, you can check out The Bulwark – just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
And, finally, let’s talk about the implications of all this – I mean, what does it say about our country when our leaders are allegedly violating human rights and getting away with it? (It’s like, what’s next – torture and dictatorship?) But, hey, at least we can vote, right? (Or, at the very least, protest and complain on social media.) Anyway, that’s my two cents on the whole thing – take it for what it’s worth (which, let’s be real, is probably not much).
