And so, the latest saga in the never-ending drama that is American politics – Steve Bannon vs Elon Musk. Because, you know, what could possibly go wrong when you have a former top advisor to President Donald Trump going head-to-head with the world’s richest person?
But let’s get down to business – Bannon has been on a mission to discredit Musk, calling him a “parasitic illegal immigrant” (um, isn’t that a bit rich coming from a guy who’s been accused of being a white nationalist sympathizer?) and accusing him of using his influence to push an agenda that disregards American traditions. And, honestly, it’s a bit hard to argue with that, considering Musk’s history of, shall we say, “interesting” decisions (like that time he tweeted about taking Tesla private and got in trouble with the SEC…)
(By the way, has anyone else noticed how Musk seems to have a bit of a Narcissistic Personality Disorder thing going on? Just saying.)
And then, of course, there’s the fact that Musk has become a key power player in the Trump administration, which is just…peak 2024, am I right? I mean, who needs experience or qualifications when you’ve got a Twitter account and a billionaire ego?
But, in all seriousness, it’s a bit concerning that Musk has been meeting with foreign leaders and overseeing the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has been tasked with aggressively cutting federal bureaucracy. Because, you know, what could possibly go wrong when you put a tech billionaire in charge of government efficiency?
(Can someone please explain to me why we need a whole new department for this, though? Can’t we just, like, use the existing government agencies and, I don’t know, maybe hire some competent people to run them?)
Anyway, Bannon’s latest criticisms of Musk aired during an interview with UnHerd‘s James Billot and were later amplified on his War Room podcast, because of course they were. And, honestly, it’s a bit hard to take Bannon seriously when he’s calling Musk out for being a “parasitic illegal immigrant” while simultaneously complaining about H-1B visas. Like, come on, Steve.
But, I suppose it’s worth noting that Musk has largely ignored Bannon’s attacks, only offering a brief response on X: “Bannon is a great talker, but not a great doer. What did he get done this week? Nothing.” Which, you know, is a bit of a low blow, but also kind of…true?
(Can we talk about how Musk’s response is just a classic case of projection, though? Like, isn’t he the one who’s always tweeting about his latest plans to save the world, but never actually follows through on them?)
So, what’s next in this ongoing saga? Well, Musk’s role as head of DOGE is expected to continue, with the billionaire set to target the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) this week as part of the Trump administration’s federal cost-cutting plans. Because, you know, what could possibly go wrong when you put a tech billionaire in charge of regulating the securities industry?
And, finally, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the sheer absurdity of it all. Like, can you imagine if this was a satirical novel? “In a shocking turn of events, the former advisor to the President of the United States has begun feuding with the world’s richest person, who is also in charge of a new government department tasked with cutting federal bureaucracy.” Yeah, that sounds like a real best seller…
(By the way, if you’re looking for a good satirical novel to read, I highly recommend checking out The Circle by Dave Eggers. It’s like a prophecy of our current times…)
