A self-styled mystic in Italy, Gisella Cardia, may face trial after a DNA test revealed that blood on a statue of the Virgin Mary was hers.
Cardia had claimed the statue was transmitting messages to her and that it wept tears of blood, attracting hundreds of pilgrims to a town near Rome, but prosecutors have opened a fraud investigation into her activities.
