Dictator for a Day: Because Who Needs Human Rights When You Can Have an Extra Hour for Lunch?

5 Min Read

Ugh, can you believe this guy? President Donald Trump is at it again, spewing out cryptic tweets that are just begging to be deciphered by the internet. This time, he decided to quote French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, because, you know, who needs original thoughts when you can just plagiarize a historical dictator? (I mean, come on, Trump, at least try to come up with something a little more…I don’t know…not fascist?)

But, I digress. The quote in question is “He who saves his Country does not violate any Law,” which, let’s be real, sounds super ominous and authoritarian. I mean, who gets to decide what “saves” the country, anyway? Trump? His tweets? (By the way, have you seen the books written about this guy? There are so many, it’s like people can’t get enough of his…unique brand of crazy.)

And, of course, the internet was quick to pounce on this, because, let’s face it, it’s just too easy. One user wrote, “This is crazy talk,” while others compared Trump’s statement to quotes from Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco. I mean, yeah, because that’s exactly the kind of company you want to keep, right? (On a completely unrelated note, has anyone tried that new coffee mug from Amazon? I heard it’s hilarious.)

But, in all seriousness, this kind of rhetoric is not only disturbing but also super scary. I mean, what’s next? Will Trump start wearing a Napoleon costume to press conferences? (Actually, that might be kind of awesome…just think about the memes.) Political commentator Brian Krassenstein even posted a thread listing dictatorial leaders who echoed similar sentiments about being above the law. It’s like, hello, Trump, you’re not exactly subtle about your authoritarian ambitions.

Now, some of you might be thinking, “But what about the lawyers? Won’t they, like, stop him or something?” Well, let’s just say that Trump’s lawyers have their work cut out for them. I mean, the guy has been involved in so many lawsuits and court battles, it’s like he’s trying to single-handedly keep the entire legal profession in business.

And don’t even get me started on Vice President JD Vance, who thinks that judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s “legitimate power.” Um, yeah, because that’s exactly how the Constitution works, right? (I mean, I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how it goes…although, hey, what do I know? Maybe I should just read a book about it or something.)

Anyway, where was I? Ah yes, Trump’s love of authoritarian rhetoric. So, let’s just say that it’s not exactly surprising that people are comparing him to dictators. I mean, when you’re tweeting out quotes from Napoleon, you’re kind of asking for it. (By the way, has anyone seen that new t-shirt that says “I’d rather be reading about Napoleon”? I heard it’s hilarious.)

But, in all seriousness (just for a second, I promise), this kind of talk is not only disturbing but also super scary. I mean, what’s next? Will Trump start calling himself ” Emperor Trump” or something? (Actually, that might be kind of funny…just think about the memes.) The point is, we need to be careful about the kind of language we use and the kind of rhetoric we tolerate. Because, let’s face it, words have consequences, and we don’t want to end up living in some kind of dystopian novel or something.

And, finally, let’s just say that I’m not exactly holding my breath for Trump to start acting like a normal, sane human being anytime soon. I mean, at this point, I’m just waiting for him to tweet out something like, “I’m a big league leader, believe me, and I’m going to make America great again, just you wait and see.” (Actually, that sounds kind of plausible…sadly.) But, hey, at least we can all laugh about it, right? (I mean, what else can we do at this point?) Memes are, after all, the best medicine.

Or are they? (Just kidding, I have no idea.) But, seriously, let’s all just take a deep breath and try to stay sane, okay? (I know, I know, it’s hard.) And, hey, if all else fails, we can always just drink more coffee and try to stay awake through the chaos. (Just kidding, that’s not a solution…or is it?)
