Can you believe this?! The Democratic Party is actually suing President Donald Trump over his utterly ridiculous executive order that attempts to take control of elections away from the states – because, you know, that’s exactly what the Constitution says, right? (Or not.) I mean, who needs states’ rights when you have Trump, am I right?
And let’s get real, of course the order has drawn widespread criticism from election officials and voting rights advocates, because it’s basically a recipe for disaster – or, you know, a perfect plan to disenfranchise millions of voters. I mean, who wouldn’t want to make it harder for people to vote, especially military members serving overseas and married women who have changed their name? It’s not like they’re, you know, citizens or anything.
But, I guess that’s the whole point – to rationalize Trump’s repeatedly debunked conspiracy theories and set the stage to throw out legal votes and ignore election outcomes he doesn’t like. Because, you know, that’s exactly how democracy is supposed to work (not). And, by the way, have you seen the prices of voting equipment on Amazon lately? It’s like they’re trying to make a profit off of our suffering or something.
And, oh boy, the order is just full of gems – like commanding the attorney general to crack down on voting by mail, because, you know, that’s a thing that needs to be cracked down on. And, of course, there’s the part where Trump tries to assert control over the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), because who needs bipartisan independent bodies when you have Trump? I mean, it’s not like the EAC was created by Congress to help states improve election infrastructure or anything – nope, Trump knows better.
But, wait, it gets better – the order also demands that the EAC require eligible voters to provide documentary proof of their citizenship when registering through a federal registration form, because, you know, that’s not a huge barrier to voting or anything. I mean, who needs accessible voting when you can have passport applications and bureaucracy? And, by the way, have you seen the chaos that this order could unleash on elections in several states and D.C.? It’s like Trump wants to create a real-life Purge situation or something.
And, in case you were wondering, this order is just one of several steps the Trump administration has taken to undermine free and fair elections – because, you know, that’s exactly what America needs. But, hey, at least the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is challenging the order, calling it an attempt to make it far more difficult for eligible U.S. citizens to exercise their fundamental right to vote. Because, you know, that’s exactly what this order is – a big ol’ bucket of vote suppression.
And, as a side note, have you seen the coffee prices lately? I mean, I know it’s not directly related to the article, but I just need to vent about something. Anyway, back to the topic at hand – this executive order is a complete disaster, and we should all be very concerned about the future of our democracy. But, hey, at least we can all agree that Trump is writing the book on how to undermine democracy – literally.
But, in all seriousness, this order is a serious threat to our democracy, and we need to take action to stop it. So, let’s all take a deep breath, grab a cup of coffee, and get ready to fight for our right to vote. Because, you know, it’s not like we have a choice or anything – this is war.
And, to end on a lighter note, have you seen the funny t-shirts about Trump? I mean, they’re not directly related to the article, but they’re just so funny. Anyway, that’s all for now – thanks for reading, and don’t forget to stay informed about this issue. Or, you know, just procrastinate and hope it goes away – either way, it’s been real, folks.
