Violent protests over the Waqf Amendment Act have resulted in three deaths in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. Two persons, a father and son, were , while a 17-year-old youth succumbed to injuries from a police firing.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that the Waqf Amendment Act will not be implemented in the state, and accused some parties of misusing religion for political gain, while the Calcutta High Court has directed the deployment of central armed police forces in affected areas.
