I’m just so exhausted from watching Senator Cory Booker’s record-breaking speech against the Trump administration, I mean, who needs sleep when you can watch a politician talk for hours on end, right? And let’s be real, it’s not like I have better things to do, like binge-watching Netflix or something. But seriously, 9 hours and 21 minutes, is that even humanly possible?
But what’s even more impressive is that Senator Booker’s speech was in protest of the Trump administration, because, you know, that’s not something that’s been done before, ever. I mean, who hasn’t spoken out against the Trump administration at some point, am I right? And can we talk about the fact that he’s trying to break a record, like, what’s next, most hours spent watching paint dry?
And don’t even get me started on the content of his speech, I mean, immigration is a pretty important topic, but 9 hours worth of discussion? That’s just ridiculous (or is it remarkable, I always get those two mixed up). But in all seriousness, immigration reform is a complex issue that needs to be addressed, but maybe, just maybe, we can discuss it in a more concise manner, like, I don’t know, over a cup of coffee or something.
But I guess what’s really impressive is that Senator Booker didn’t even take a bathroom break, I mean, that’s dedication, right there. And can we talk about the fact that he’s trying to make a point, like, what’s the point of speaking for 9 hours if nobody’s actually listening? And by nobody, I mean the Trump administration, because, let’s be real, they’re not exactly known for their listening skills.
And did I mention that Senator Booker’s speech was live-streamed, because, you know, who needs TV when you can watch a politician talk on your computer screen? And I’m pretty sure I saw some coffee mugs in the background, so, you know, that’s a thing. But in all seriousness, C-SPAN is actually a pretty great resource for watching live coverage of, you know, politicians talking.
But what’s even more impressive is that Senator Booker’s speech has been fact-checked, because, you know, facts matter (or do they?). And according to fact-check.org, his speech was mostly accurate, which is more than I can say for some people (cough, certain presidents, cough). But in all seriousness, fact-checking is an important part of, you know, journalism and stuff.
And finally, I just want to say that Senator Booker’s speech has inspired me to, you know, take action, or at least, you know, buy a protest sign or something. But in all seriousness, getting involved in politics is an important part of, you know, democracy and stuff. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even run for office, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, I mean, I can barely adult for one day without, you know, needing a nap.
