Saudi Arabia’s forces are accused of using indiscriminate force against migrants on their borders, resulting in deaths and injuries. Ethiopian migrants have given accounts of coming under machine gun fire and witnessing bodies rotting in the border area.
A Human Rights Watch (HRW) report found that Saudi border guards killed hundreds of Ethiopian migrants and asylum seekers between 2022 and 2023, using guns and explosive weaponry, which may amount to crimes against humanity. The situation remains dire, with no sign of Saudi Arabia stopping the use of deadly force to thwart irregular crossings.
