Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has announced a military operation in the former president’s hometown of Qardaha, following clashes between government forces and fighters loyal to the ousted Assad regime, which left over 70 people dead, including 13 women and five children.
The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has expressed deep concern over the violence, calling on all parties to refrain from actions that could further inflame tensions and destabilize the region.
