Iraqi Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has called on Iran to extradite members of the “Qurban” sect, accusing Tehran of supporting the group. The sect, also known as the “Alla’hiya,” believes in human sacrifice and promotes suicide as a means to hastening the arrival of Imam Mahdi.
Al-Sadr described the sect as “deviant” and urged Iraqis to reject it, while calling on Iran to extradite fugitive members to face legal consequences in Iraq. The Iraqi government has intensified its crackdown on the sect, citing security concerns and linking it to a series of suicides in southern provinces.
