Africa is turning to solar-powered irrigation systems to boost agricultural productivity and food security. The World Resources Institute is supporting the integration of clean energy in the smallholder agriculture sector, aiming to enhance energy access and productivity.
In Rwanda, solar-powered irrigation systems are being adopted by smallholder farmers, increasing crop yields and reducing reliance on diesel-powered generators. The initiative aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the goal of irrigating 1,146 hectares of land by 2029.
