Senator Cory Booker Delivers Marathon Speech, Somehow Still Doesn’t Run Out of Hot Air to Protest Trump Policies

7 Min Read

Congratulations, Senator Cory Booker, you’ve managed to outlast me and probably every other sane person on the planet! I mean, who needs sleep when you’re on a mission to shame those House conservatives for their fiscal cruelty and irresponsibility? (Yeah, good luck with that, because, you know, they’re not exactly known for their listening skills.) And let’s be real, what Booker is doing is not technically a filibuster, but who’s counting? He’s still talking, and that’s all that matters, right?

And he’s still going, and going, and going… it’s like he’s trying to break some kind of record or something! But seriously, with the help of his Democratic colleagues, Booker is holding the floor, as is his right as a senator, and he’s rounding into his 15th hour… and there is no damage being done to the republic from that quarter, so that’s a good thing, I suppose. Although, I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, he’s secretly trying to put us all to sleep with his endless talking.

But, Politico seems to have missed the memo, because they’re not exactly giving him the coverage he deserves. I mean, come on, guys! Can’t you see that Booker is trying to make a statement here? And The New York Times and The Washington Post are no better, burying his story beneath tariffs and other scandals… it’s like they don’t care about the real news.

And, by the way, has anyone noticed that Booker is having a bit of fun saying “Ouagadougou,” the capital of Burkina Faso? I mean, who wouldn’t want to say that word out loud? But, I digress… the point is, Booker is trying to make a point, and we should all be listening. He’s talking about how the president has no respect for the people his policies will hurt… yeah, good luck with that, because, you know, it’s not like we haven’t heard that before.

But, in all seriousness, we are coming up on the 250th anniversary of our revolutionary birth, and there are going to be a lot of commemorations over the next decade. And Cory Booker is doing his part, putting his body on the gears of the United States Senate, just like Mario Savio did back in 1964. As Savio said, “There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart that you can’t take part! You can’t even passively take part! And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus—and you’ve got to make it stop!”

And, by the way, have you ever read about the Boston Tea Party? Now that was a real party… I mean, who wouldn’t want to dress up as a Native American and throw some tea into the harbor? But, I suppose that’s a story for another time… the point is, Booker is trying to make a statement, and we should all be listening. He’s talking about the threat to Social Security… yeah, good luck with that, because, you know, it’s not like we haven’t heard that before.

But, in all seriousness, what’s really going on here? Is Booker just trying to get some attention, or is he really trying to make a difference? I mean, it’s not like he’s going to change the world with his talking, but maybe, just maybe, he can inspire someone to take action. And, who knows, maybe his talking will be the spark that sets off a revolution… or maybe it will just put us all to sleep. Either way, it’s been entertaining to watch, and I’ll give him that.

And, as I’m writing this, I just got a notification that Booker is still talking… I mean, seriously, how does he do it? Does he have some kind of secret energy drink that we don’t know about? Meanwhile, the House conservatives are still being their usual, annoying selves… but, hey, at least Booker is trying to do something about it.

But, I have to ask, what’s the point of all this? Is Booker just trying to make a statement, or is he really trying to achieve something? I mean, it’s not like he’s going to change the world with his talking, but maybe, just maybe, he can inspire someone to take action. And, who knows, maybe his talking will be the spark that sets off a revolution… or maybe it will just put us all to sleep. Either way, it’s been entertaining to watch, and I’ll give him that.

And, as I’m wrapping up this post, I just want to say that, despite all the jokes and sarcasm, I really do think that Booker is trying to do something important here. He’s trying to bring attention to the issues that matter, and he’s willing to take a stand, even if it means talking for hours on end. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and listen to what he has to say… you might just learn something. Or, you know, you might just fall asleep. Either way, it’s been an entertaining ride.
