Trump Officials Still Talking About Hillary’s Email Server: Because Clearly That’s the Biggest Threat to National Security (and Not, Say, Anything They’ve Done)

5 Min Read

And so it begins, another day, another scandal, another opportunity for the Trump administration to show us all how to mismanage classified information (can I get a popcorn maker to go with this circus?). But, seriously, who needs Signal when you have a CNN montage to expose your hypocrisy?

I mean, come on, Hillary Clinton was dragged over the coals for her private email server, and now we find out that the Trump administration is using an encrypted chat to discuss war plans with The Atlantic‘s editor-in-chief, Jeff Goldberg (or, you know, just casually inviting him to a top-secret chat, no big deal). It’s like they say, “those who live in glass houses should not throw stones,” but I guess that doesn’t apply to the Trump team.

And, yes, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Mike Waltz, the White House National Security adviser, invited Jeff Goldberg to the chat (I guess they wanted an outside perspective, or maybe they just wanted to make sure someone was taking notes). I mean, what could possibly go wrong with sharing classified information with a journalist, especially one from The Atlantic (sarcasm alert)?

But, hey, at least they’re consistent, right? I mean, who needs to follow the rules when you’re the Trump administration? And, by the way, can someone please explain to me why they’re using Signal instead of, I don’t know, a secure government channel? Is it because they want to be like the cool kids and use the latest messaging app (or do they just not care about security protocols)?

And then there’s the best part: the Trump administration’s reaction to the whole ordeal. When asked about the story, Trump said he didn’t know “anything about” it (sure, because that’s exactly what you want to hear from the President of the United States – plausible deniability). And Pete Hegseth, the Defense Secretary, said “nobody was texting war plans” (okay, sure, because that’s exactly what it looks like).

But, let’s be real, this is just another example of the Trump administration’s hypocrisy. I mean, they were quick to condemn Hillary Clinton for her email server, but when it comes to their own misuse of classified information, suddenly it’s no big deal (or, you know, they just “don’t know anything about it”).

And, by the way, has anyone noticed how many people were included in this Signal chat? I mean, it’s like they were trying to set a new record for the most people in a group chat (Vice President JD Vance, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and many more – it’s like a who’s who of the Trump administration).

But, in all seriousness, this is a big deal. The mishandling of classified information is a serious offense, and it’s not something to be taken lightly (or, you know, used as a political football). As CIA Director John Ratcliffe said in 2019, “mishandling classified information is a violation of the Espionage Act” (so, you know, no pressure or anything).

And, finally, can we talk about Hillary Clinton’s response to all this? Her seven-word tweet, “You have got to be kidding me,” is just perfect (I mean, who wouldn’t want to say that to the Trump administration right about now?).

In conclusion (or, rather, not conclusion, because this is just the beginning of this saga), it’s just another day in the Trump administration, where hypocrisy knows no bounds and classified information is just a plaything. So, go ahead, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show (or, you know, try to keep up with the latest scandal – it’s like a full-time job).

But, wait, there’s more! You can find more information about this story on the Independent (because, you know, they’re not afraid to call out hypocrisy when they see it). And, if you’re interested in learning more about Signal, you can check out their website (or, you know, just use a secure government channel like a normal person).
