And let’s get this straight – Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, has managed to infuriate his own party by caving to Donald Trump and voting for a Republican-backed short-term government funding bill (because, you know, who needs principles when you can have a temporary solution, right?). But, of course, Schumer is not backing down, saying he won’t quit his leadership position – because, why would he, it’s not like he’s embarrassed or anything.
I mean, seriously, who does this guy think he is? Nine Democrats joined him in voting for this legislation, which increased defense spending and cut $13 billion in non-defense spending, giving Trump broad discretion to direct the funds – it’s like they’re trying to make Trump happy or something (wait, that’s exactly what they’re doing). And, as expected, Rep. Glenn Ivey was the first to publicly call for Schumer to resign – you know, the usual, “I respect Chuck Schumer, but it’s time for him to go” nonsense.
But, apparently, Schumer thinks he’s done nothing wrong – I mean, who needs accountability when you can just postpone your book tour and call it a day? And, by the way, if you’re interested in buying Schumer’s book, you can find it on Amazon (just don’t expect me to link to it or anything). Meanwhile, Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Schumer was “wrong” to capitulate to Trump – no kidding, really?
And then there’s Sen. Bernie Sanders, who thinks the problem is deeper than Schumer – it’s the party itself, which is “heavily dominated by the billionaire class” (you know, the usual suspects). But, hey, at least Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a rally in Denver, drawing a crowd of nearly 34,000 people – I guess that’s something, right? And, if you want to learn more about the rally, you can check out this YouTube search (don’t worry, I won’t make you watch the whole thing).
Now, I know what you’re thinking – what about the book tour? Well, Schumer postponed it, citing security concerns due to planned protests against him – you know, the usual “I’m afraid of my own party” excuse. And, if you’re interested in buying books about politics, you can check out this Amazon search (just don’t expect me to recommend any of them).
But, let’s get back to the issue at hand – Schumer’s vote drew so much ire from the public that he’s basically hiding under a rock, saying things like “a shutdown would be 15 or 20 times worse” (no kidding, really?). And, of course, he’s right – a shutdown would be devastating, with the executive branch having sole power to determine what’s “essential” (you know, like Elon Musk‘s Twitter feed). But, hey, at least Schumer acknowledges that “democracy is at risk” – you know, under the leadership of Trump and Musk (the dynamic duo of destruction).
And, finally, let’s talk about the courts – many of Trump’s actions have been challenged, and Schumer thinks that if Trump defies the courts, “the public will rise up” (you know, the usual “we’ll just wait and see” approach). But, until then, we’re stuck with Schumer, who’s still trying to justify his actions – you know, the usual “I’m not stepping down” nonsense. So, what do you think – should Schumer resign, or should we just wait and see what happens next? (Just don’t expect me to care either way). And, if you want to learn more about the issue, you can check out this Google search (don’t worry, I won’t make you read all the articles).
