U.S. President Donald Trump has delayed his tariffs on some Canadian goods until April 2, offering Canada a partial reprieve from a 25 per cent levy. However, roughly 62 per cent of imports from Canada would still face steep tariffs.
Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc stated that the vast majority of Canadian exports to the U.S. are or can quickly be CUSMA compliant, and the number is expected to rise to 100 per cent, taking pressure off several sectors. Canada will not lift its tariffs on $30 billion worth of American goods until Trump’s tariffs are removed entirely.
