A massive wildfire in Japan has damaged dozens of homes and forced over 1,000 people to flee. The fire, which is the country’s biggest in decades, has spread through 2,100 hectares of land in the city of Ofunato.
The Japanese government has deployed over 2,000 self-defence force troops and firefighters to control the flames, which are fueled by strong winds and an unusually dry winter. Relief is expected with snow and rain forecasted to start falling on Wednesday, which may help to limit the damage.
