New Zealand and Australia are closely monitoring Chinese naval ships in the Tasman Sea after a live firing activity was reportedly conducted without prior warning. Minister of Defence Judith Collins stated that the Chinese naval Task Group had advised of a second window for live firing activity.
The HMNZS Te Kaha frigate observed live rounds being fired from the Zunyi’s main gun, and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said that China is acting within international law. Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong has urged China to be more transparent about its navy activities in the region.
