Brazil’s former president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been charged with overseeing a scheme to hold on to power after losing the 2022 election. The charges include attempting to annul the vote and empower the military.
The indictment, which is 272 pages long, accuses Bolsonaro and 33 others of crimes against Brazil’s democracy. If convicted, he could face 12 to 40 years in prison, according to the indictment.
