The Zunft zur Meisen, a medieval guild in Zurich, has voted to allow women to become members, with 88% support. This decision marks a significant change in the guild’s traditions, which had previously excluded women from membership.
The guild’s decision will enable women to participate fully in the Sechseläuten spring festival, a traditional event that takes place every third Monday in April. Other guilds in Zurich may follow suit, with the guild of Höngg already announcing plans to adopt a similar policy of openness to women.
