A young man from an isolated Indigenous tribe in Brazil’s Amazon returned to his people voluntarily after approaching a riverine community. He had been seen carrying two logs and was believed to be asking for fire.
The man, who was in good health, was taken to a nearby facility by officials from Brazil’s Indigenous affairs agency, Funai, but returned to the forest less than 24 hours later. A team of health professionals was sent to assess his health and surveillance has been established to protect the isolated tribe’s location.
