And let’s get this straight – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is calling for New York City Mayor Eric Adams to be removed from his position. But, you know, no big deal, just your average everyday corruption scandal.
Apparently, Adams’ legal team tried to make a quid pro quo deal with Trump administration officials, which is just a fancy way of saying they tried to bribe them (or, you know, “exchange favors” – same difference, right?). And, of course, Adams’ team has denied all allegations, because that’s what you do when you’re caught red-handed.
But here’s the thing: Ocasio-Cortez is having none of it. She’s all like, “This is explosive. Mayor Adams is putting the City of New York and its people at risk in exchange for escaping charges.” And I’m over here thinking, “Girl, you’re preaching to the choir.”
And, by the way, have you seen the politics books section on Amazon? It’s like a never-ending treasure trove of drama and corruption. I mean, who needs fiction when you have real-life politicians, right?
Anyway, back to the story. So, Adams’ case was transferred to the unit overseeing public integrity divisions at the DOJ, and, surprise surprise, several prosecutors resigned in protest. I guess they didn’t want to be a part of the whole “corruption and bribery” thing.
But, hey, at least New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is being all cool and calm about it, saying she needs time to “process this and figure out the right approach.” You know, because that’s exactly what you want in a leader – someone who’s all like, “Uh, let me think about this for a bit.”
And, in the meantime, Emil Bove, the acting deputy attorney general, is just over here making decisions like, “Yeah, let’s just dismiss the case against Adams because, you know, reasons.” I mean, I’m no expert, but isn’t that just a teensy bit suspicious?
But, hey, at least Adams is happy, right? He’s all like, “I thank the Justice Department for its honesty.” And I’m over here thinking, “Dude, you’re not even trying to hide it anymore, are you?”
And, finally, can we just take a moment to appreciate the NY Times for keeping us informed about all the latest corruption scandals? I mean, without them, we’d be lost in a sea of ignorance and bliss.
So, what do you think, folks? Should Adams be removed from his position, or is this all just a big ol’ misunderstanding? Let me know in the comments below. And, hey, if you’re feeling generous, you can even support your local journalism by buying a book or two (or ten) from Amazon. Just saying.
